You may be wondering why you received Ms. Mikki's Newsletter on the Parents As Teachers blog.  That was my mistake.  It was meant to post to my classroom blog.

Santa Bash was a HIT!!!  Thank you to everyone who took time out of their busy schedules to attend.  This was one of our largest attended events.  If you were not able to attend or missed picking up a preschool application for next year, please let me know and I will send one home with you.  Yes, you must fill another one out for next year.  

This week we finished up our Gingerbread and 5 senses unit.  We read two more versions of the Gingerbread Man stories, Gingerbread Pirates and Gingerbread Friends.  

We also continued to identify 5 senses, named each body part responsible for each sense and names things that fit into each category.  

Next week we will practice sorting by color, graphing, and identifying different sizes (small, medium, large), and ordering items from smallest to biggest.  

Santa’s Workshop:  One of my favorite centers to set up this time of year is Santa’s Workshop.  This allows children the opportunity to wrap pretend presents, which requires them to use their fine motor skills.  If you have any small boxes (shoe box or smaller), scotch tape (lots of it), or leftover wrapping paper and bows, please send them to school.  This is class favorite activity!!

Vision Screenings:  All children were screened last week for vision.  You should be receiving information regarding your child’s results this week.  

Care To Learn Donations:  We are taking part in a school wide food drive to benefit our backpack program.  Preschool classes are donating granola/cereal bars. This is optional and we appreciate those who have already sent a donation in.  We are currently sending home 30+ backpacks each week to families in need.  Every donation, big or small helps fill those backpacks up.

SANTA BASH TOMORROW (Thursday) 5-7!

Bundle up! It's going to actually FEEL like Christmas on Thursday evening for SANTA BASH!!! 5:00-7:00 come and go as you wish but make sure you come early enough to do it all! The fun will end at 7:00 so everyone can get home, warm and cozy for bed.

Parents, bring your cameras or cell phones to take pictures!

MOTHER-DAUGHTER SPA SATURDAY!

Is your calendar marked for THIS Saturday at 10:00? Mother/Daughter Spa Party in the Clever Conference Center located behind the Central Office on Public Avenue. You may park in the gravel lot across from the two-story brick building and walk over.

Up-dos, nail painting, crown making, dress up play and much more!
Wear your robe and slippers and come join us! EVERYONE deserves an hour of pampering fun! :)

MOTHER-DAUGHTER SPA SATURDAY!

MOMS and DAUGHTERS---Join us this coming Saturday Morning at 10:00 for a Mother/Daughter Spa Hour! We'll meet in the Elementary School for an hour of girl time fun. There will be nail painting, crown making, hair styling, dress up play and all kinds of girl fun! All PAT ages welcome! Our topic will be social/emotional development so come ready to reflect on your child's development as we explore ways to connect with our daughters. See you there!

We're Headed to the Pumpkin Patch!

Thanks to our families that came out last night and supported our school by supporting PTA! It was a perfect night for a fall festival!

PUMPKIN PATCH THIS THURSDAY!! Our next PAT event will be this Thursday, October 13th. We're headed to Campbell's Maze Daze in Boaz! We'll be joining the preschoolers there! The fun begins at 9:30.

Prices: Children under 3 are free
All other children are 5.00 each and they pick a pumpkin
Adults are 5.00 each and extra for a pumpkin

Bring your lunch if you'd like and we'll picnic after the farm activities.
Rain date will be the 20th!

FIRST PLAYGROUP OF THE YEAR!!!

The Cox Care Mobile is scheduled to be at Clever Schools on October 6, 2016.  The Care Mobile is a medical office on wheels that provides FREE services for children ages birth to 18 years.  You may call the school nurse to inquire about the services provided, to schedule an appointment and to receive the necessary paperwork.  Thank you!

Welcome to our first blog of the school year!  We hope you are checking in with our Face Book page to stay informed.  As we've told you, FB is a much easier way to publish more information.  For those of you who don't have FB, this will be your second best option for staying informed,  FB is just an easier format for posting pictures and informational articles. 

 In an effort to be more effective with our communication we need to update our family information lists. If you could please take a few moments to fill out the form attached in this link we would greatly appreciate it. LAST PLAYGROUP and DAY in Pre-K Information

Two Pieces of Important Information!

1. Last PAT Playgroup of the Year is this Friday, May 6th, at Rutledge Wilson Farm. Bring a blanket and sack lunches! We'll gather at 10:00 and be done before 11:30. Come enjoy the beautiful weather and some time outside with your little one! Google for directions.

2. ATTENTION ALL 2016-17 PRESCHOOL PARENTS----
Tuesday, May 10th is our "Day in Pre-K" event. If your child is going into our 4-year-old preschool, they will spend an hour in the preschool classroom getting a taste of what next year will be like. The first event is from 10:00-11:00 or our evening event is from 6:00-7:00. While your child is in the classroom, you will be attending a parent informational meeting. As noted on your application, this is a mandatory meeting so please plan accordingly. Look for a sign-up genius email that will be coming in the next couple of days. We will need an equal number of students for each session and it will be first come, first served.

Parents of 3-year-old preschoolers will also attend but NO CHILDREN as they will not be participating in the classroom portion. They will NOT need to sign-up and may attend either session.

CRUISIN' INTO SPRING THIS TUESDAY NIGHT!

Cruisin’ Into Spring!

·      When:  Tuesday evening (April 19^th) 6:00-7:00

·      Where:  HOPEFULLY, on the playground.  If the weather throws a curve at us, we’ll be in the OLD gym which fronts on Public Avenue (red brick, two story).  Either way, it’s goin’ down!  J

·      Bring TWO things: Your child’s favorite, NON-Battery operated, ride-on toy, stroller, wagon, scooter, big-wheel, trike, cozy coupe, etc. AND donations for our on-going food drive for our local food pantries.  Suggestions: canned goods, cereal, boxed meals, etc.  Please bring AT LEAST one but feel free to bring more!

·      We’ll Have: Ride up popcorn stand, ATM, Drive-In Movie, Gas Station, Car Wash and MORE!  If the weather cooperates, we’ll also have BIG VEHICLES outside to explore (Fire truck, etc.).

·      THREE-YEAR-OLD Preschool Packet pick-up and FOUR-YEAR-OLD Preschool Packet drop-off.

Safe Kids Alliance will be there with safety information and drawings for FREE kids’ bike helmets with expert fittings.  Just might be your lucky night so don’t miss out!

IMPORTANT UPDATES:

Our "Cruisin' Into Spring" event is next Tuesday, April 19th from 6:00-7:00. Fingers crossed for good weather but we'll move it inside if needed! Either way, load up your child's favorite ride-on toy (stroller or wagon for our littlest friends) and meet us here at school! ****For the sake of safety, NO battery operated toys**** We'll have our highway set up with stops at an ATM, drive in movie, snack bar, car wash, gas station and more! We'll also have big vehicles in the bus lane for kids to explore! DRAWINGS FOR FREE BIKE HELMETS!

PRESCHOOL PARENTS:

Packets can be turned in at Our "Crusin'" event! That's right, a few extra days to get your packets and final $30.00 payment turned in. SEE YOU TUESDAY! Remember, participation in our group events play a role in your child's placement! We will also have a list of the session in which your child has been placed!!!

3-Year-Old PRESCHOOL APPLICANTS:

Emails are coming this evening! You will also pick up your packets at our "Cruisin" event!

April 28th-29th: Kindergarten Screening- Any child who will be entering Kindergarten in the fall needs to sign up for Kindergarten screening. Please call the office for more information.

May 10th: A Day In Pre K and mandatory parent meeting for incoming preschool students in the fall. Stay tuned for more information.

Upcoming deadline! If you are interested in enrolling your child in our 3 year old preschool program next year, applications are due next Friday, April 1st. You can pick up an application in the Elementary office between 8:00-4:00 each day. Please contact your parent educator if you have any questions. In order to be eligible your child must turn 3 by August 1st. We are offering a 2 day a week, 1/2 day program. Session days are Monday/Wednesday or Tuesday/Thursday. The session time is 8:00-11:00. There is a 15 drop off period from 7:45-8:00 am, and a 15 minute pick up period from 10:45-11:00.

Books have the power to benefit babies, toddlers and preschoolers in so many ways.

As a parent, reading to your child is one of the most important things you can do to prepare him with a foundation for academic excellence.

Come to story time in the morning and put this information in to practice. Every child in attendance will take a FREE book home!

Wear your favorite hat and some funky socks! Please bring another PAT friend with you, or even someone who isn't yet enrolled in PAT. Preschool is not in session this Friday, so we hope to see some of our preschoolers there!

**For those of you who have children that will be in preschool next year, we'll walk down and take a little tour AFTER story time.**

3 VERY IMPORTANT DATES!!....

1- If your 4 year old child has been accepted into the preschool for next year the first of two $30 payments is due tomorrow, March 1st. Failure to submit payment will result in your child being moved to the waiting list. Please notify your parent educator if you are forfeiting your child's preschool spot so we can enroll the next child on the list.

Let's get ready to shake it like we mean it and dance off those winter blues! Come join us as we relieve stress through gross motor movement while celebrating our favorite Valentines! Doors open at 6:00 and close at 7:00.

You may park in the bus lane and circle drive and enter through the lower elementary office doors. We'll be in the FEMA shelter/cafeteria (same place we held Santa Bash).

Happy Monday! Ok, we need your input, please. This Friday, February 5th, we are TRYING to plan a playgroup at Gold Medal Gymnastics in Republic. It will be $5.00 per family but we must have at least twenty families to make it work. If you will be attending, we must have your RSVP by this Wednesday! You'll pay when you arrive at the venue. HELLO 2016!

WELCOME TO 2016!!! Although it's always tough to get back into the swing of things after time off, we are ready to hit the ground running! 
My apologies to those of you that are receiving your Santa Bash pictures for a second time. Originally, when I tried to send them via e-mail, no luck so I then sent them via FB messenger. For whatever reason, they decided to go via e-mail this morning. Oh well, better twice than not at all. smile emoticon
This month our play group will be a Saturday event to give our working parents a chance to attend. Meet us in the PAT building on Saturday, January 30th from 10:00-11:00 for some unstructured play.
Mark your calendars for Friday evening January 22nd!! Our school's annual Winter Festival will be held from 5:30-8:00. It is hosted by our AMAZING PTA (not to be confused with us, PAT) and helps raise funds for school improvements. More info to come so stay tuned. Just save the date and we'll look forward to seeing you there! It's always a fabulous time for our community to come together for a great cause.
Finally, looking further ahead: PAT Sweetheart Dance will be Thursday evening, Feb. 11th. Stay tuned for details.........
